Bueno, Bueno, Bueno
Oh, Spain. The exciting mix of cultures over its long heritage have granted us tangy, vibrant cheeses and rugged fruity wines to wash them down. Join us Wednesday, November 18th while we sample both and tell you a bit about what makes them so spectacular. Wendy Hunsinger, Katzinger’s Specialty Foods manager will share the evening with Ken Harvey of Cutting Edge Wines as they delve into the tastes and textures of these indigenous treats.
Tasting begins at 6:30 and prepaid $24 reservations are recommended. Our wine and cheese tasting frequently sell out so call 614-228-3354 soon to save your spot.

It’s Race & Free Cake Day!
The Columbus Marathon is this Sunday, October 18 and it goes right by the deli. Join us to cheer the runners while sipping coffee, hot tea or hot chocolate (FREE ‘til noon). Be sure you nibble on Steve’s freshly made scones and sticky buns. We’re opening at 8:00 so you can arrive before race time at 3rrd and Livingston (anticipated 8:23). View the course map. And, in celebration of Katzinger’s 25th Anniversary, it is also FREE CAKE DAY (yes, with purchase). We are looking forward to sharing our delicious homemade cake with all our guests.
Our Delightful, Delicious and Free (aka DDF) are cards are ready! Buy 12 sandwiches, big or huge, or the soup and sandwich special and the 13th sandwich is on us.
As the pile of tickets grows your chances of winning shrinks. However, the need to provide for the hungry doesn’t. Please buy a chance at a $500 Katzinger’s Gift Card or Specialty Foods Basket and have a sure shot at helping someone in need. All proceeds go to the Mid Ohio Food Bank and Katzinger’s will match up to $2500.

DON’T MISS OUR DELI CLASSICS TASTING
Seriously, this is Such a deal. For a mere $14 a person or $25 for two, you can spend an evening sampling the foods that made Katzinger’s Katzinger’s, Yep, these are the goodies that have been favorites for 25 years and that quarter century isn’t chopped liver! We’ll take you through our best selling (and favorite) sandwiches -#1, #11 and others. You’ll taste and learn about two of our best selling cheese – Emmenthaler Swiss and Parmesan Reggiono . We’ll have latkes and kugel and the only real authentic Honeycup mustard. We can’t deny turtles, fudgies and blondie brownies their place at the table and , Dr. Brown’s cream soda. And, in homage to the deli Specialty Foods Classic, we’ll throw in an extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar and a mild creamy goat cheese. Some of you may remember how hard it was for me to get the public to even taste goat cheese 25 years ago ( A few even curled their lip at me!). My how far we’ve come.

Katzinger’s 25th Anniversary!
25 years and 600,000 pounds of corned beef later – it is time to celebrate. Here’s the plan – we’re closing at 2:00 Thursday, October 1 and reopening from 6:00-9:00. We’ll have food, drinks, surprises and we hope you will join us. But first, please RSVP (call 614.228.3354 or email RSVP@Katzingers.com) so we’ll know how much food to have on hand! We are “charging” a $5.00 admission to be donated to Columbus Cancer Clinic. Katzinger’s will match up to $2500.
We are also having a prize drawing to benefit Mid Ohio Food Bank. For $5.00 or 5 cans of food (or 5 for $20 or 20 cans) you can purchase the opportunity to win a $500 Katzinger’s gift card or a $500 Specialty Foods basket! Katzinger’s’ will match funds up to $2500. Winner will be announced October 31.
We’re looking for a Katzinger’s t-shirt design that’s not about the anniversary. Send your entry to wendy@katzingers.com or mail to Wendy Hunsinger, 475 S. 3rd St., Columbus, Ohio 43215. Entries will be displayed in our back dining room, must be received by October 9 and the winner will be announced October 31. The prize is a $100 Katzinger’s gift card, 3 t-shirts of the winning design and your name all over our website.
Our Taste the Deli Classics will be held October 14. For $14.00 you can indulge in all the foods that have kept you coming back.
Then on October 18 is Free Cake Day (with purchase). Bring the kids for sure!
And, last and because you asked us to, we are introducing a Delectable, Delicious and Free (aka DDF) card. Buy 12 Katzinger’s menu sandwiches and the next one is on us. Cards are free and will be available October 1.
When my former partner, Steve Warren, and I opened Katzinger’s October 1, 1984 we figured it would just be a little deli. Not long into this adventure it came to me – Deli’s are the universal leveler where everyone is the same. Rich or poor, professor or auto mechanic, a student, grandmother or the President of the United States? It makes no difference. You are all the magical wonderful deli customers that have made these 25 years so rewarding.
Phew. Not to get maudlin but indeed – and I speak for the entire Katzinger’s staff – it has been our pleasure and our honor to serve you. I don’t believe I could have hand-picked a more diverse, entertaining, thoughtful and generous group of people to hang around with. Thank you all for your help in making Katzinger’s what it is today.
We’re so excited for Katzinger’s 25th anniversary and we want you to be a part of the celebration! Send us your deli memories and we’ll post them on the deli walls, in the windows, on our webpage!
