Katzinger’s 25th Anniversary!

25 years and 600,000 pounds of corned beef later – it is time to celebrate. Here’s the plan – we’re closing at 2:00 Thursday, October 1 and reopening from 6:00-9:00. We’ll have food, drinks, surprises and we hope you will join us. But first, please RSVP (call 614.228.3354 or email RSVP@Katzingers.com) so we’ll know how much food to have on hand! We are “charging” a $5.00 admission to be donated to Columbus Cancer Clinic. Katzinger’s will match up to $2500.

We are also having a prize drawing to benefit Mid Ohio Food Bank. For $5.00 or 5 cans of food (or 5 for $20 or 20 cans) you can purchase the opportunity to win a $500 Katzinger’s gift card or a $500 Specialty Foods basket! Katzinger’s’ will match funds up to $2500. Winner will be announced October 31.

We’re looking for a Katzinger’s t-shirt design that’s not about the anniversary. Send your entry to wendy@katzingers.com or mail to Wendy Hunsinger, 475 S. 3rd St., Columbus, Ohio 43215. Entries will be displayed in our back dining room, must be received by October 9 and the winner will be announced October 31. The prize is a $100 Katzinger’s gift card, 3 t-shirts of the winning design and your name all over our website.

Our Taste the Deli Classics will be held October 14. For $14.00 you can indulge in all the foods that have kept you coming back.

Then on October 18 is Free Cake Day (with purchase). Bring the kids for sure!

And, last and because you asked us to, we are introducing a Delectable, Delicious and Free (aka DDF) card. Buy 12 Katzinger’s menu sandwiches and the next one is on us. Cards are free and will be available October 1.

When my former partner, Steve Warren, and I opened Katzinger’s October 1, 1984 we figured it would just be a little deli. Not long into this adventure it came to me – Deli’s are the universal leveler where everyone is the same. Rich or poor, professor or auto mechanic, a student, grandmother or the President of the United States? It makes no difference. You are all the magical wonderful deli customers that have made these 25 years so rewarding.

Phew. Not to get maudlin but indeed – and I speak for the entire Katzinger’s staff – it has been our pleasure and our honor to serve you. I don’t believe I could have hand-picked a more diverse, entertaining, thoughtful and generous group of people to hang around with. Thank you all for your help in making Katzinger’s what it is today.
